I finished up Wasabi over the last 7-10ish days. I had to go out to buy stuffing but he's finished, stuffed, ends woven in, eyes attached, and is ready to go off to Wisconsin (along with Bonbon for Miss C).
In addition to finishing a project, I actually frogged a project. I had gotten through probably 33 rounds of my first Twilight Socks and I frogged it the other day. I didn't like what my middle cable was doing so I'm probably going to rewrite that cable and start over. The two side cables were fine but the middle one was uncooperative. Oh well. So, for full transparency, I put it on the FO list....even though it's been frogged.

Finish one, frog one, start two apparently.......
I've had some non-kitchen cotton hanging about for awhile and I decided to start a gamer bag prototype of sorts. I know gamers are always looking for bags for their dice or their cards or whatever they need bags for. So, I had some cotton and some needles and I'm making it up as I go along. Right now, it's a square bag with nothing fancy going on. I might change that in later editions. We'll see how things go.
I also started Boo-Yah from the Belfry & Boo-Yah pattern. I'm using up more of the Cascade 220 that I used for Wasabi. I'm close to being finished, actually...I might have to make a few more. It's turning out really well. I did make a change on the arms but it's only because I hate working in the round starting with a small number of stitches (in this case, I was supposed to start with 4 sts and increase so I just started a row after the increase and went from there).
Other than those two projects, I did some knitting on the shawl, the garter stitch baby blanket, the Vanillaish Rainbow socks, and my Smooth Operator socks.....but I didn't necessarily do a lot of work on all of those. But I worked on all of them.

Here in California, we've had a busy time (when don't we?!).
Since it's fall and the weather is turning, the snails are coming out a bit more. I found this one on our walk to school one morning. Little Man wanted to move him but I thought it was fine where it was at that point. I wasn't wrong because it was gone by the time Stormageddon and I came back around a little later.
Yeah. This is still happening. It's a good thing he's cute because he's a bed hog.
On Tuesday, Little Man wanted me to take his photo. So, you know, I obliged.
I think this was on Wednesday morning, as we were getting home from dropping Little Man off at school after a meeting. Yes, that's a raccoon. Yes, it's broad daylight. And no, funnily enough, that's not garbage. It didn't appear to be a fully-grown adult but it was bigger than a baby.
I found this guy hanging out by our front door earlier this week, as well.
On Wednesday night, Husband and I went out with some friends of ours, for dinner at House of Prime Rib. We've been there a few times but our friends had not. They only recently moved here from Washington state (they're pilots for Virgin/Alaskan Airlines) so they're doing the "touristy" things that we still like. Hence delicious dessert from HoPR.
We spent the weekend camping near Yosemite. So, this is an unorganized smattering of photos from camping and Yosemite. We stayed at a KOA just outside Mariposa. Just a few weeks ago, the area we were staying in was surrounded by wildfires and you still see evidence, of course.
The KOA has a pool (unheated), a playground, areas for tents, areas for RVs, and cabins that you can rent. We opted for a cabin, mostly because we can't fit everything into the car anymore, what with car seats that take up an asinine amount of room, and the sheer number and size of our gear. We had a one-room cabin with a queen sized bed and twin size bunk beds. No heat so we were a bit cold at night, but otherwise, it was fine. And because we were in an area prone to fires, there were no fire pits. They had grills but you couldn't have a bonfire, which was fine as we made it work with the little grills.
The playground is kind of in a little valley of it's own and both boys climbed up and down one of the hills. I swear it was probably a 60º incline. I couldn't do it but the boys could.
This was the road going into the mountains (Hwy 140, if you're from around here). As you got further in, you could see the evidence from the fires. Lots of blackened groundcover, many burned trees, the usual.
This is an interesting piece. As you're driving along the highway (again, this is Hwy 140), you will come across this HUGE obelisk. Upon closer inspection, it reads the following:

It's unclear whether it's the actual resting place or if it's just a disgustingly huge monument. There's a cemetery down the road but there is no marked grave there for him. The story goes that he was a wealthy rancher outside Merced, California and when he died, he ordered $25,000 be set aside for a "suitable monument" and that his grave be on his Bear Creek Ranch. When he died, two of his brothers had a dispute that resulted in the courts getting involved. One brother, Lee, argued that a smaller monument and a free library in Merced was enough to be considered "suitable" but another brother, Jonathan Jr., disagreed. The courts found in Jonathan Jr's favor and the full amount was set aside for the monument seen above. The ranch itself, where the monument sits, was bequeathed to a third brother, Charles, who had the monument finished in 1911. The rest of the ranch (about 3500 acres) was sold to Del Monte/Cal Packing in 1919 so all that's left is the monument.
It's just so....random. It's worth noting just because it is so random.
Remember the playground I mentioned? The above three photos are also from the playground. Yes, that's an abacus. No, I have no idea how to use one.
In addition to the usual "wildlife" you'll find in a campground, there were also wild turkeys and a fat grey kitty. I only got photos of the turkeys. They walk around like they own the place.
On Saturday, we drove into Yosemite. Turns out, it was a Free Park day as it was National Public Lands Day. We didn't plan it but it was a happy surprise.
Stormageddon showed me an igneous rock he found (and let Little Man keep).
We decided to take the Mist Trail to the bridge to see Vernal Falls. This is at the bottom of the trail.
Little Man is forever showing off. This was the sign at the beginning of the trail. We had no idea what we were in for...
There is a waterfall there. It's not going crazy because it's been hot and it's the end of the summer...but it is there :)

Stormageddon needed a break on our 0.8 mile hike to the bridge......0.8 miles my ass! My Runkeeper registered almost 3 miles.
Okay, we found this squirrel. I've dubbed him Fatty Fatty Boomba Latty because he was definitely a fat squirrel. He was also not scared of humans, as evidenced below.

Husband didn't make it to the bridge. His back decided to get angry so he stopped maybe 2/5 of the way up. But the rest of us made it.
I tried to get a decent photo of the falls but my phone was not cooperative with the light and dark that was happening. This one you can actually see the falls....the other ones you can't see the falls. ::sigh::
Remember the squirrel? We found an acorn and our friend, Thom, and Little Man tried to feed him. Sadly, the acorn was not up to his standards and he turned away. I do have video of that but it was refusing to load properly. Oh well.

Interesting and sad story about the monument. Looks like you had a great getaway. I have a hankering for a road trip now.
