11. Veggie Socks: started July 6, 2017
12. Miss Babs BFL: started July 11, 2017

Because I finished a spinning project, I started a new one. I pulled out two braids of Miss Babs' BFL that I picked up in a destash a few years ago. They're both "approximately 4 oz" in the colorway Crazy U, which has dark purple, light purple, forest green, a bright pastely yellow, and a bright aqua (and probably a few other colors in between that I'm not identifying). I thought about plying the first two bobbins once I finished them but decided to just spin the next two bobbins and then I'll do the plying for both. The first two bobbins were 51 g and 52 g respectively. The second two are 62 g and I 61 g. Soooo, both braids were approximately 4 oz :)

I also worked on the Veggie Socks, briefly. I'm still on the cuff of the first one so there's not much to see at this point.

My Garter Stitch Baby Blanket continues to grow here and there. It's couch knitting (or when I want to knit but don't want to pay a ton of attention). I'm maybe halfway through the first ball. Maybe. I haven't checked.

I've done the heel turn and gusset decreases on the first of the Vanillaish Rainbow Socks. So, now I'm just working until I get to the toe decrease. I'm also paying attention to how many rows I knit on these socks. I have a stitch marker in at the point where I started again after picking up stitches for the heel. I know I knit 72 rounds before I did the heel stuff and I'm going to count how many I knit before I get to the toe, so I can be really matchy-matchy. Yes, I am a nerd.

I also have a HFO:

This is the first Smooth Operator Sock, finished. I finished it on Thursday while at Little Man's swimming lessons. I'm not sure about my contrast yarn choice but I'm going to make the second one and see how things wear and if it sucks, I won't use it again. It's already a little fuzzy, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The fiber content is wool and acrylic and it's slightly thinner than the main color, which is why I'm hesitant about it. We'll see.

This week flew by. I honestly don't understand why some days/weeks seem to drag on forever and others fly by like nothing. Weird thing about life, I suppose.

Sometime over last weekend, the mosquitos decided my boys were tasty...all of them. Husband, Little Man, Puppy, and Stormageddon got bug bites. Stormageddon got hard, little welts that were raised up. Husband got wide, flat welts (and not as many). Little Man got a combination of both, unfortunately. The ones on his arms and legs were the little raised welts like Stormageddon's. And then there were the ones on his face....

Doesn't look so bad, right?

That was taken a couple hours later. He had one right under his eye and he swelled up quite a bit from that. He looked fine when I dropped him off at school and when I picked him up, he looked like someone had punched him in the eye (the first photo)....and then he went to a movie with a friend of his (and his parents, of course - Spiderman Homecoming, if you're curious) and his friend's mom sent me the above photo.

Also, Stormageddon fell asleep in the car again. He did that a lot this week actually...

He had this adorable little pout going on. I have no idea what he was dreaming about but it must have made him sad because this was the look on his face for a good 20 minutes.

Don't freak out. The car is parked in our driveway. Stormageddon was still sleeping so we took a silly selfie.

This happened on Tuesday. The two of us were sitting in my bed, I was probably writing a few blog posts or dinking around on Ravelry or spinning or something and I noticed he was really quiet, even though he had the iPad going. I looked over and he was snuggled in between the pillows and had a blanket on him.

The time between the photo of him asleep with the iPad and this one: less than 5 minutes. Please note he is now in the car and had a diaper change between the photos. He must have been really tired that day.

Did I mention lots of photos of Stormageddon sleeping this week? This is what I found on Thursday morning. Both of them asleep, cuddled up together.

Yeah, Stormageddon is still sleeping with us almost nightly. I don't want to hear about how co-sleeping is dangerous and he'll never sleep in his own bed and we're coddling him and blah blah blah. I don't want to hear it. We are all a lot happier if he just sleeps with us. I put him to bed in his own bed but he usually wakes up around 10:30pm-11pm and rather than put him to back to bed in his own bed and have to repeat the process ad nauseam every couple of hours and getting next to no sleep, we just let him climb in with us. It works and we're all a lot happier.

Thursdays are also the day when Little Man has swimming lessons. We've figured out how and when to leave. His lesson is at 6pm and it's not overly far away but it's during rush hour. If we leave between 5pm-5:10pm, we can get there in less than 15 minutes and have little to no issues with the traffic (heavy but moving). If we leave later than that, we get stuck in horrendous traffic and it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to infinity to get there. In other words, we usually arrive with plenty of time so Little Man will sit and watch the koi in the pond, draw with chalk, and have some time where it's just us.

Friday was Little Man's last day of summer school. He really liked summer school, thankfully.

After dropping Little Man off at school, Stormageddon and I went to Target (and a few other errands).

And then he promptly fell asleep in the car. Again.

If he didn't fight me on naps so much, I'd probably still be giving him a nap every day. I think he's going through a growth spurt though. He only gets like this when he's about to get one. ::sigh::

I spent the week doing some work for the school auction (even though it's like 9 months away) and other householdy tasks. I've been having problems with actually getting anything done that isn't absolutely necessary (read: dishes and laundry) so I went back to the UFYH method of 20 minutes of work followed by 10 minutes of "fun" and the "fun" in this case was spinning (usually). I managed to get a few things done, which was nice and needed. Little Man's closet/clothing has been out of hand for awhile so I went through and pulled out all the too-small stuff and got out the new stuff. I finally started a project that has been languishing because I didn't want to dig out my paint. But, I dug out my paint and started that project. I did some work in my yarn closet. I swept and vacuumed the hardwood and cleaned a bathroom and.....yeah, I was productive.

Saturday was a rather lazy day. We went to the gym, Costco, and Home Depot. I mowed the lawn; Husband did some work in the garage. Then we took the boys to one of the parks where they have a splash pad. It wasn't on last summer because of the drought but with all the rain and snow this year, they turned it back on. So, Little Man loved it....Stormageddon liked it for about five seconds and then ran off to the actual park area, which was fine. We also went up the hill to go swimming at a friend's house. Yes, we have a ghettotastic pool but we've been meaning to go up that way so we did. Tired boys. Tired Mama.

Oh, and I discovered Halo Top Ice Cream this week. I can eat a pint of ice cream and the entire thing is only 280 calories? Yes, please! Granted, some of the other flavors are more (sea salt caramel is 320, as are a few others - the lowest I've seen is 240).

Anyway, I hope you're having a lovely weekend! I don't know what I'm going to do with Little Man now that summer school is finished......Stormageddon has a hearing test tomorrow and then we're going to decide if he's getting ear tubes put in or not (he probably will).

So, there's all that :) I'll be back on Tuesday with some dyeing adventures :)

  1. Co sleeping...............When my kids were little we never had that word BUT......they slept with us too. They eventually end up growing out of it and sleep in their own bed. You are right..........it is too much of a hassle to keep putting them back in their bed 20 times a night for 3 years. Everyone is different and has their own ideas, but in the end, they are your children and you are the ones that are raising them to be good people!

Lots going on in your world as usual. I am always amazed at how much you do in a week and still manage to work on fiber projects.

I love halo ice cream. Birthday Cake is one of my favorites!

  2. Your spinning looks great, and I love the colours on your Smooth Operator sock.

  3. Love all the spinning, I could tune in here all the time just to see that!

We did the same with plenty of ours, some wanted to come in when they'd wake at night some preferred staying in their own beds. Both work and it's definitely not coddling them. I think a nights sleep for them and you is far more important, at least it was for us and they grow out of it, just suddenly stop coming in.

  4. Too funny about Stormaggedon and his sleeping pics...so cute! You're right..it's probably a growth spurt and the sleeping with you guys is pretty normal I would say. My grandson Sam just turned 10 and he hasn't for years but Grayson just turned 6 and he still does. I never pushed my kids to break any of those habits as they will naturally grow out of them and they must need the security for now.
You are one busy Mama and I love your spinning....someday. The socks are awesome. I bought the pattern a while ago but haven't tried it. I do cleaning like you....I do either 3 minor things or one major and then I get a 15 minute break! LOL! I have to trick myself in order to do housework..lol! Whatever works, right?
Your boys are so handsome and have the most beautiful smiles! Have a great week!

  5. Yeah, I think all that nodding off probably does mean a growth spurt is coming. At least he's got some super cute sleeping expressions happening :)
